INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY (IP) PARALEGAL
Location: Windsor, Ontario
Reports to: Intellectual Property Manager

Position Summary:
A key player in the intellectual property department providing support in all aspects of trademark prosecution and maintenance.

Responsibilities:
· Maintains trademark and IP data stored in trademark docketing program (CPA) as well as corresponding trademark files.
· Handles trademark renewals and applications for trademark registrations in various jurisdictions worldwide and has responsibility for maintaining and meeting deadlines.
· Provides support to the IP Manager for all contentious IP matters (oppositions, cancellations, litigation) and manages deadlines.
· Provides support in performing and analyzing trademark clearance searches.
· Provides support in organizing and analyzing incoming trademark watch notices.
· Responsible for providing administrative duties and general support to the IP Manager for the America’s trademark hub.
· Responsible for legalization and notarization of official documents (assignments, licenses, etc).
· Responsible for receiving and coding invoices for payment for PRUSA and other affiliate companies within the America’s trademark hub.
· Handles and organizes incoming mail - legal correspondence from sister companies, third parties, outside counsel, foreign agents, etc.

Nature / Scope:
· Position typically works with the IP Manager, IP Counsel and other managers and directors within PRUSA, other management personnel at PRUSA affiliates within the America’s trademark hub, outside counsel, and senior personnel within the worldwide trademark hub structure.
· Position typically handles confidential information relating to agreements and other IP matters.
· Under supervision of the IP Manager, decisions made in this position have a vital impact on the success of our business due to the impact that trademarks have on the success of our brands.

Education/Qualifications/Experience:
· Bachelor Degree; paralegal certification or consummate paralegal experience required.

· Between 2 and 5 years experience. Must have at least 2 years of experience as a trademark or IP paralegal with a law firm or a corporate legal department. Must have experience with domestic and international trademark filings and maintenance of an international trademark portfolio.

· Intermediate skill level in Microsoft Excel and Word. Trademark database and docketing system experience strongly preferred.
· Knowledge of French or Spanish an asset.

Competencies:
· Strong verbal and written communication skills in addition to providing high levels of analysis resulting in effective trademark compliance processes.
· Ability to organize and self motivate to achieve results and track performance so that problems are detected early or prevented entirely.
· Must be pro-active in identifying and addressing issues and managing deadlines with Intellectual Property Counsel.
· Must be able to work within a team environment.


$60- 65000 salary (this is negotiable)
$30000 relocation fee provided.
